The Russian Information Technologies (IT) market grew 26.3% from the previous year to $1.9 billion in 2004, the research company IDC said in an analytical report.
The Russian IT market is rapidly overtaking the markets in Eastern and Western Europe, the report says.
The computer software market for automating management systems at businesses grew at a strong rate for the third year in a row in 2004. It is mainly growing due to the sale of licenses, which rose by almost 52% last year, the report says.
IDC said there was a strong growth in demand for consulting services and installation of business orientated computer programs, such as analytical programs, automated document turnover systems and client management systems.
The financial, production, government and telecommunication sectors are traditionally the biggest consumers of IT services in Russia and they accounted for more than 65% of the market in 2004, the report says.
The IT service market will grow an average of 25.4% a year over the next five years and its volume will be about $5.8 billion by 2009, the report says.
