In 2004, ERP computer programs that calculate business expenses and production costs became a top seller in Russian software market. According to the IDC Corporation, last year Russian companies spent $195 million for the ERP and thus boosted the market of the business software by 53 percent.

The main task of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) computer software is to calculate the overhead and final production cost of a company. For last several years ERP systems became extremely popular in the U.S. and European markets. According to IDC, in 2004 the world market of ERP programs reached $26.7 billion.

Russia surpassed the rest of the world in the ERP sales growth. The report published by IDC on Monday states that compare with 2003, the sales for the business software in 2004 grew by 52.8 percent.

However, some market specialists think that the process of mass ERP sales in Russia might encounter certain difficulties. The problem lays in the shortage of qualified specialists that can properly install the systems. Also, the ERP is not well adapting to the Russian bookkeeping standards.
