Recently, Software Developing Companies Association RUSSOFT has organized a press conference dedicated to open source products and Linux-based technologies. It was organized on the threshold of Open Source Forum Russia – the first big conference and exhibition dedicated to Open Source that is organized by RUSSOFT, Fort-Ross and Linux Ink. It will take place on April 27-29, in Moscow.
The representatives of MEDT of Russia and the Russian Ministry of IT explained why governmental institutes support Open Source Forum Russia, and how Open Source programs are used for the needs of the state. One of reasons is the significance of the security questions. For example, the Ministry of Defense cannot use systems "in which the sources codes is impossible to look into" and which is on risk of being cracked. Open Source Software is more reliable.
Another argument for choosing Open Source products is the expenses. At last, one more argument in favor of Open Source is the possibility of modification and adaptation of the software to demands of the customer because of the open competition between companies producing Open Source software.
