Danish Outsourcing Firm TechOutSys joins Russian Fort Ross Consortium

Jan 25, 2004
Technology Outsourcing Systems (TechOutSys) joins one of the leading Russian industry associations within IT and offshore software outsourcing: The Fort Ross Consortium. The aim is to strengthen TechOutSys's cooperation with Russian IT companies and to increase the marketability of Russian IT resources in TechOutSys's markets in Scandinavia.

TechOutSys is a Danish IT outsourcing firm, which operates its sales and project coordination activities from offices in Copenhagen (Denmark) and St. Petersburg (Russia). TechOutSys's business concept concentrates on providing an effective framework for facilitating offshore IT outsourcing to Scandinavia - promoting the advantages of Russian IT resources, and establishing and managing successful outsourcing projects and cooperation agreements between Scandinavian clients and Russian (as well as other CIS) suppliers.

TechOutSys's underlying mission is to bridge the gap between the suppliers and (potential) buyers in the outsourcing market, specifically between Russian software development companies on the one hand, and Scandinavian clients on the other. A great potential exists for a positive development in this market, but there are still some important barriers to be overcome in order to be able to truly realize the potential.

Christian Kalkar manages TechOutSys's project office in St. Petersburg. Being Danish, but working permanently in Russia, he looks at the potential and the barriers from both a "Western outsourcing buyers' point of view" and "the Russian outsourcing supply side":

Bridging this gap requires three key elements:

First, to actively promote the benefits of offshore outsourcing towards Scandinavian companies, who are often unaware of, unprepared for or hesitant towards using the opportunities for outsourcing to offshore markets.

Second, to form long-lasting cooperation with Russian IT companies, thus being able to market a broad portfolio of competencies towards potential clients.

And, third, to set up and operate a professional project management and coordination unit, which can ensure smooth and effective communication between clients and suppliers.

In fact, these three elements form the core of TechOutSys's business vision. Joining Fort Ross will provide TechOutSys with a very good foundation for carrying out these activities.

Fort Ross Advantages, mutual benefits expected

The Fort Ross Consortium comprises some of the largest and most professional IT companies in the Russian North West Region and beyond (one of three major regional centres of IT in Russia), which together can boast upwards of 2000 software developers, programmers, IT Architects, and other specialists. Joint activities and goals include conferences, events and promotion campaigns, which aim at increasing the awareness about Russian IT resources, and supporting the members in their effort to reach clients in the international markets.

Furthermore, the consortium sets out some common professional standards for the members, which give the individual members a stronger competitive position in the international marketplace.

As a member of Fort Ross, TechOutSys will become part of this strong network of companies and will actively seek to market the resources of the members of Fort Ross to TechOutSys's primary market segments.

TechOutSys anticipates that the advantages of having offshore IT resources organized in an industry organization will prove to be an important parameter to penetrate the market in two overall respects:

Fundamentally, it will increase the profile and competitiveness of the portfolio of resources and competencies that TechOutSys can offer to potential clients.

Moreover, the professional standards for quality, security, developments processes and warranties, to which the members of the consortium adhere, will also be an important marketing parameter.

TechOutSys in looking very much forward to working together with Fort Ross's management and staff, as well as the member companies of the organization. TechOutSys CEO Jens Brinksten expresses the hopes and objectives:

We expect that TechOutSys will be able to help promote highly qualified Russian IT resources; that we will be able to support the Fort Ross members in reaching new clients; that we will contribute to some interesting activities - and add to the growth of the Russian IT export sector in the future.
