Star Software Corporation had a very eventful year in 2003, which became a turning point Star's further development as a competitive provider of world-class services in the global software outsourcing arena.

Last year, the company made serious changes to its corporate structure. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, USA, with development facilities in St. Petersburg, Russia, Star Software now stands to benefit directly from its narrow focus on providing software engineering services to companies throughout Western Europe and the United States.

Star's formal assessment at the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 3 Rating carried out by The Motorola GSG in December 2003, became an important milestone for the company. Nick Puntikov, Star's CEO, emphasized the importance of this event: "We see continuous software process improvement according to this model as the best way to meet the constantly rising quality standards and to assure the customer satisfaction. That is why we at Star have successfully applied a set of formalized and documented working processes and procedures based on CMM Level 3 since 2002".

Star's devotion to quality process improvement also enabled Star Software to join the worldwide Microsoft Certified Partner Program. It is a widely recognized program for independent companies providing Microsoft-based IT services and products.

In March 2003, Nick Puntikov was elected to the Board of the National Software Development Association (RUSSOFT), Russia's largest professional organization in the sector of software development, which is another testimony to Star Software's key role in the Russian software outsourcing market. Star's prominence was further confirmed by Aberdeen Group featuring Star Software among industry leaders in its report, "Software Development in Russia: A Buyer's Guide to the Russian Software Development and Services Export Industry" (June, 2003 http://www.aberdeen.com).

In June 2003, Star Software once again acted as a co-sponsor of RUSSOFT's annual Software Outsourcing Summit traditionally held in St. Petersburg. The Summit is the largest industry event devoted to software development in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.

Star Software also participated in a number of events related to outsourcing, offshore software development, and international co-operation in the area of IT, including the "Russian High-Tech In Japan" seminar (April 2003, Tokyo), Russian IT-seasons Road Show (November 2003, Scandinavia), and Comdex 2003 (November, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA). Star's representatives hosted plenary sessions, moderated panel discussions and roundtables, delivered reports on the main problems of outsourcing, and presented cooperation programs.

Summing up the results of 2003, Nick Puntikov said: "2003 has been very fruitful both for Russian IT industry and for our company. Successful completion of a number of projects for prominent international corporations and the assessment by widely recognized international standards ensure company's further growth and strengthened Star's position in the global software marketplace".
