Andrey A.Terekhov, CEO of LANIT-TERCOM, will take part in the conference Baltics IT&T Forum. The forum will take place April 2-5, 2003, Riga, LATVIA
Andrey A. Terekhov will present two reports: "The Overview of the Russian Software Industry" and "Teaching Software Professionals - the differences of the East Europe".
Overview of the Russian Software Industry
Abstract: Russia is a vast territory with seemingly endless natural resources. Indeed, gas, oil, coal, and lumber still constitute by far the largest part of Russian natural produce, accounting for over 80 percent of exports. It is easy to overlook the software industry against this background, yet it is one of Russia's most promising industries. Its particular strength - a well-educated and dynamic workforce - allows Russia to bid for a sizeable share in the world's software development markets. In this presentation we will give an overview of the Russian software industry and will discuss its possible future directions. Special attention will be paid to Russian software outsourcing capabilities.
Teaching Software Professionals
Abstract: Every year the universities of the world produce hundreds of thousands of specialists in programming. According to various sources, some 15 to 40 thousands of these specialists graduate from the universities in the Eastern Europe. Considering the globalization of the world economy, one should expect that in the near future today's graduates will work in close collaboration with Western specialists. Will our graduates be able to communicate with Western software professionals? How our education system correlates with the Western approach? What are the skills required for today's software industry? In this presentation we will try to answer some of these questions.
