The Russian Ministry of Information Technologies claimed that the country is set to become the next global leader in outsourcing.

That's because, according to the minister, Leonid Reiman, software exports are growing at 40-50 per cent annually, with IT galloping ahead of other sectors of the country's economy.

There are already 250 firms active in offshore software development, with the outsourcing industry anticipated to reach $2 billion in the next two years.

The minister said a number of global giants including Intel, Boeing, IBM, Cisco, Motorola, Dell, Siemens, Microsoft and HP are already benefiting from a "cadre" of programming and engineering skills.

The Russian government is set to create free economic zones to match Indian outsourcing centers such as Bangalore, said Reiman.
