Jan 13, 2003
At the end of December, RUSSOFT - the National Software Development Association, has reviewed its works for 2002. The main directions for this period were:
  • Creating a structure for the work organization;
  • Marketing and PR actions in order to promote Russian developers' products and services abroad;
  • Lobbying for the industry interests and attracting high-ranking officials to RUSSOFT's PR actions;
  • Assistance to the introduction of modern quality assurance standards inside the companies - RUSSOFT's members.
Let's remind that the Association was created in September 2001 and at the beginning of 2002, the state registration was completed and the basic organizational questions were solved. In March 2002, an extraordinary Conference was held and a new Board and a new president were elected. As well, a new Charter and Program were accepted.

In April 2002, the board accepted the name "RUSSOFT" as the Association's trade mark. Since June 2002, RUSSOFT's office is located in Research computer center (RCC) of the Moscow State University which has given the Association work environment (in November, RCC became the academic member of RUSSOFT).

With a new name and a new President, the Association has taken part in several international actions. The most significant are:

April, 2002
  • RUSSOFT has submitted a report at the Forum of Russian-American economic cooperation in Washington.
  • Together with Consortium "Fort-Ross", RUSSOFT co-organized the Russian Pavilion at the exhibition OutsourceWorld in London. For the first time, Russia had his own Pavilion at this exhibition devoted to software development.
May, 2002
  • RUSSOFT became a major partner in the organization of the Russian-American "round table" on IT questions, carried out in Moscow within the framework of George Bush (US President) official visit to Russia.
June, 2002
  • Together with Consortium "Fort-Ross", RUSSOFT co-organized the Second International Forum "Opportunities of Russia in software development services", held in Saint Petersburg.
October, 2002
  • Participation in 10th session of US-Russia Business Council (USRBC) in Boston. Leaders of New England's IT community and Mr. Andrey Korotkov, the Russian Federation first minister of communications and informatization were attending this meeting.
  • RUSSOFT is the information sponsor of the First Russian - German IT-symposium which took place in Moscow. RUSSOFT and German IT Association BITKOM have settled a Memorandum of understanding.
November, 2002
  • Organization and realization of the First Russian IT-season in New York within the framework of NYNMA Association annual conference (New-York New Media Association). At the same time, a reception at General Consulate of the Russian Federation in New York was held. Totally, 180 American businessmen were participating.
  • Second meeting between leaders of New England's IT community (together with the Russian-American chamber of commerce in Boston) and Russian delegation at Investment Conference in Boston.
  • Participation in Russian-American Technological round table in San Jose, California. This event was sponsored by Intel Corporation with the assistance of the Foundation for the Development of Information Technologies and Mirantis (USA). 130 top managers working for American technological companies were present.
  • Participation in AICTO General Conference (the Asian Organization of Information and Communication Technologies) in Seoul. Since then, RUSSOFT is a member of AICTO.
RUSSOFT didn't only participate in international events. Particularly, in November, the Association has sponsored a programming world championship semi-final (ACM International Collegial Programming Contest), which was held in Saint Petersburg.

On November 21st, RUSSOFT started up an event for informal dialogue and access to the most interesting information developers market. This event, named as "press-club", is intended to reunite together journalists and IT-companies' representatives. The first edition of this event was held in Moscow club "Duma" and an internet conference with the Technological round table in San Jose was organized.

In 2002, the Association actively cooperated with Ministries and departments. An agreement on cooperation with Ministry of Communications and informatization was signed. The first deputy of two Ministries (communication and informatization, and also industry, science and technologies) took part in RUSSOFT's conference. Andrey Korotkov, the Russian Federation first minister of communications and informatization, took part in the agreement signing ceremony between RUSSOFT and BITKOM. He was also participating in a meeting with leaders of New England's IT community in Boston. Ministry of Communications has acted as the organizer of the First Russian-American IT round table.

RUSSOFT has taken part in the realization of some researches devoted to the deregulation questions and to the evaluation of support given to Russian enterprises regarding the exportations. These researches have been carried out by the Russian Federation Ministry of economic development and trade.

The interaction with the Ministry of the industry, science and technologies is successfully developed. RUSSOFT's representative was included in the Ministry's scientific and Technical Council structure. A fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises has been allocated for the process of modern quality assurance standards introduction (ISO 9001/2000, CMM, CMMi) in Russian enterprises.

Within the framework of this project, initiated and prepared by RUSSOFT, a simultaneous seminar was held in St. Petersburg and Moscow. In this seminar, some enterprises shared their experience on certification process. Totally, there were over 100 participants. It is planned that in 2003, 10-15 more companies will get financial support in order to start their certification process.

By the end of 2002, the Association grew up to 60 members - companies who are engaged in software development and exportation. New members are from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Samara, the whole Association "National Technopark" from Byelorussia, the Center of program technologies of the Russian Science Academy, and a number of academic members.

Totally, RUSSOFT's members export turnover is about $150 million, which is a little bit less than 50% of the whole Russian software development industry exportation volume. According to Gartner Group's forecasts, this sector of Russian economy will grow annually more than 50%. The growth between 2000 and 2003 is 277%.

The actual RUSSOFT marketing and PR objectives and actions are planned till July 2003, which has already showed a great success. Among the nearest actions, there are: the co-organization, together with Consortium "Fort-Ross", of Russian Pavilion at Comdex-Scandinavia (January 2003), RUSSOFT Pavilion RUSSOFT at OutsourceWorld New York 2003 (January 2003) in USA and also RUSSOFT Pavilion at CeBIT in Germany (March, 2003).

In February 2003, RUSSOFT will participate in the 2nd session of Russian-American IT roundtable in USA. In April, RUSSOFT together with Consortium "Fort-Ross", will organize the Second Russian IT-season in USA where a Russian delegation RUSSOFT will lead a road show for one week in 3 cities on East Coast of USA.

And, at last, in June 2003, together with "Fort Ross", RUSSOFT will organize the 3rd Forum "RUSSOFT Software Outsourcing Summit" in St. Petersburg. This event will have a special importance, as it will be carried out at the time as St. Petersburg 300 anniversary.
