U.S. and Russia Talk IT: Auriga Sponsors Dinner Welcoming Russia's IT/Telecom Government Officials and Industry Leaders
Oct 04, 2002
AMHERST, NH - Auriga Inc., an Amherst-based IT consultancy with software development facilities in Russia, sponsored a dinner welcoming Russia's key government officials in Information Technology and Telecommunications, and IT industry leaders. The dinner was held October 2, 2002 at the Union Club, Boston. Hosted by the U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce of Boston, the event attracted representatives of governments and high-tech associations of Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire interested in exploring the opportunities in Russia's rapidly growing IT market.
Deputy Minister of IT and Telecommunications in Russia Mr. Andrei Korotkov delivered an address on the importance that the Russian Government attaches to forging mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the U.S. in the IT area. "The window of opportunity for the U.S. IT businesses is wide open now," said Mr. Korotkov. "Companies of New England are welcome to Russia." The Russian Deputy Minister also stressed that the follow-up dialogue is supposed to be continued by IT businesses. He said that the association of Russian IT companies RUSSOFT would serve as a gateway to the Russian IT market for New England's companies.
The Russian delegation was greeted by Joyce Plotkin, President of the Massachusetts Software and Internet Council, who addressed the guests on behalf of New England's hi-tech community.
Ms. Selena Semushkina, Deputy Director for the Russian Ministry of IT and Telecommunications, presented "Electronic Russia", a recently launched $2.5 billion, 8-year program of the Russian Federal Government. She said that the program is designed to support the development of the telecom and IT infrastructure in Russia. A particular focus of the discussions was the export and partnership opportunities for U.S. high-tech vendors, especially small and mid-sized businesses, deriving from this program, which aims to implement a wide range of E-Government applications, using the public sector as a catalyst to spearhead development of e-commerce and the Internet in the wider economy.
Dr. Alexis Sukharev, Member of the Board of Software Development Association RUSSOFT, President of Auriga, Inc., said, " Today's event provides a venue to further advance U.S.-Russian cooperation in the IT and telecom sector, which now can be viewed as a "two-way traffic highway" in terms of the growing opportunities for both U.S. and Russian IT industries."
"Solid opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Russia are emerging today," said Daniel Satinsky, President of the Board for the U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce of Boston. Among other reasons he mentioned the fact that a young generation in Moscow is very much similar to that of New England.
The meeting in Boston has become a step forward in reaching the objectives set forth by the first Russian-American ICT Roundtable held within the framework of the summit of President Bush and President Putin in Moscow, Russia, in May 2002.
