According to the report from IDC, the Russian IT market has potential for significant expansion over the next few years because of large IT projects and growing wages.
In 2005, it expanded by more than 24 per cent and preliminary figures for last year suggest that the market has continued to increase at a similar rate.
Businesses that began automation relatively late are not held back by existing legacy systems and have room to invest in cutting-edge technology.
Timur Faroukshin, senior analyst at IDC said: "Businesses in particular are increasingly sophisticated and are rejecting off-the-shelf solutions, especially when it comes to software and services. Taking the extra step of modifying products to better serve the needs of SMBs in given industries will go a long way to ensuring a solid client base."
And as Hewlett Packard open its third research centre in Russia, the country looks set to share in the global future of the IT industry.
