Russia’s IT Market Goes Up by 17 pct to Over USD 13 bln in 2006
Russia’s IT market increased by 17 percent to 13.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2006, Informational Technologies and Communications Minister Leonid Reiman told the Russian-German IT summit within the framework of CeBIT-2007 exhibition on Thursday.

The number of personal computers in Russia went up by 33 percent to 23 million. The number of Internet users increased by 15 percent to 25.1 million people.
Among key areas of Russia’s IT market development Reiman mentioned the creation of technoparks and telemedicine networks, expansion of Russia’s communication satellite group and connection of Russia’s schools to the Internet.
The minister pointed out that the creation of digital TV-broadcasting systems is one of the national-scale IT projects.
Reiman expressed the hope that digital TV broadcasting systems will start operating at 100 percent of their capacity by 2012.
After the country’s technoparks are launched, over 70,000 new jobs will be created, he said. Their annual production output may reach 4 billion U.S. dollars.
He believes that as far as Russia’s IT industry develops, it may raise 40 billion U.S. dollars of revenues by 2010.
