Aplana Software launches UK operations
Aplana’s UK local management and support infrastructure, backed up by its Moscow-based development centre, will serve the growing demand for outsourced application development in Europe

London, UK, 14th June 2005: Russian software development company, Aplana Software (www.aplana.com), has today officially launched its UK operations as part of an increased drive for global growth. Aplana’s UK office will serve as a dedicated support hub to launch its European sales and marketing drive.
Aplana already has a significant number of European clients and representatives, but Victor Weinstein, CEO of Aplana Software was keen to ensure that the UK became the central point of the expansion: "I did not want to simply engage with multiple partners across the region as I am not convinced that the ‘channel’ model will provide us the focus that this region needs. We have set up a dedicated Aplana UK team who is out there selling our services to the UK marketplace. Russian software development skills are arguably the best in the world and we are able to offer UK project support to support this talent."
Although Aplana has skills across all technologies, it is one of the most recognized Microsoft partners in Russia and in 2004 was awarded the coveted Microsoft Partner of the Year prize. As part of its commitment to Microsoft, over 50 of Aplana’s engineers are skilled in Microsoft .NET, something which Weinstein believes will contribute to the company’s ongoing success in the UK: "I see considerable growth in the uptake of .NET work over the next 12 months. Across many internet applications, we are witnessing a real transition from legacy systems onto more robust and scaleable platforms such as .NET."
Unlike many offshore software development providers looking to establish a foothold in the UK, Aplana believes that the key to making a success of this new market is by providing a local management and support infrastructure, backed up by the 150-man development centre in Moscow. The UK Managing Director of Aplana, Richard Leslie, is confident that Aplana will start to see an increase in revenues from overseas markets now that the UK office is up and running: "There is a real appetite for outsourcing in the UK and the companies that will succeed in the market are those with a local presence and an understanding of UK cultures and the way that UK businesses operate. In addition to this, having a UK project team in the UK gives the client a degree of comfort that they have not necessarily enjoyed in the past during outsourcing projects. Our aim is to provide the client with as much control throughout a project as he would have if the developers were in the next door room."
The UK office has been in operation for over 3 months now and the levels of interest have been high. Already there have been meetings with a number of interested companies, with many more meetings scheduled over the next 6 months.
