June, 2005. Kyiv, Ukraine. KM Soft, the software division of Kvazar-Micro Corp., has been successfully appraised at CMMI(R) Maturity Level 4.

This is a landmark event not only for the company, but for the local software industry. Kvazar-Micro is the first Ukrainian business to reach the CMMI(R) 4. It is an early evidence of tremendous progress of the Ukrainian IT sector and a promotion to the country image.

Bohdan Kupych, VP Business Development of Kvazar-Micro, comments: "CMMI(R) Maturity Level 4 confirms that the best management practices and policies have been implemented within Kvazar-Micro. It is also a proof of overall IT industry maturation in Ukraine, which in turn unveils new opportunities for high-tech initiatives (e.g. launch of R&D centers, exports of innovative products etc.)."

CMMI(R) (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a key international quality standard for software engineering industry. Designed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburg, USA), ÑMMI(R) is instrumental in determining organization's maturity level, testing production and business processes for efficiency, locating areas for further improvement.

"Organization and integration of processes is a critical success factor for an IT company today" – Ian Tsybulkin, General Manager of KM Soft believes. "Therefore we have been investing heavily into quality assurance and plan to consistently continue this undertaking. Achievement of CMMI(R) Maturity Level 4 is the best evidence of our processes compliance with the top international quality standards."

The fourth level can be awarded only to an organization that approaches project management in quantitative terms. "Our practices for software engineering ensure successful performance even for the most challenging assignments. For example, availability of metrics databank considerably eases project monitoring and helps to adjust flexibly to changing conditions" – stresses Eugene Marchenko, Quality Assurance Manager of KM Soft.

Only about 100 firms are appraised at CMMI(R) Maturity Level 4 or higher worldwide. Nearly 70% of these come from the USA and India. For the first time a Ukrainian company joined this elite global club.
