AMHERST, NH - Auriga Inc., an Amherst-based IT consultancy with a well-established software engineering operation in Russia, announced its membership in Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute (SEI). The SEI mission is to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software.

"Auriga membership in the SEI is consistent with our goal of providing our customers with timely, innovative, and cost-effective solutions. Our membership will support the company's commitment to quality and business process improvement efforts which allow us to ensure accuracy, efficiency and client satisfaction throughout all stages of a project lifecycle", said Yuri Kirkel, Auriga VP of Engineering.

Auriga's processes and methodologies are aligned with best practices of the Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (CMM), the standard for measuring the effectiveness of an IT organization. "The SEI initiatives have already enabled us to significantly improve our software engineering management practices," said Igor Pochinok, Director of Contract Programming at Auriga. "Auriga's project management processes allow us to effectively monitor the projects, avoid deadlines and schedule constrains, apply risk management mechanisms immediately when necessary, and provide integrated communication with the clients across different phases of the projects. As a SEI member, we are better able to meet the growing needs of business in productivity and efficiency improvements".

About the Software Engineering Institute

Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense through the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics [OUSD (AT&L)]. The SEI contract was competitively awarded to Carnegie Mellon University in December 1984. The SEI technical program is executed by approximately 225 members of the technical staff from government, industry, and academia with an average of 10+ years of experience in the field of software engineering.

The U.S. Department of Defense established the Software Engineering Institute to advance the practice of software engineering because quality software that is produced on schedule and within budget is a critical component of U.S. defense systems. The SEI mission is to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. The SEI accomplishes this mission by promoting the evolution of software engineering from an ad hoc, labor-intensive activity to a discipline that is well managed and supported by technology.
