Research methodology

The following sources and data collection methods were used in the research: - Desk Research including analysis of publications in IT press, on Web sites, and other open sources; - Data of previous researches conducted by Market-Visio/EDC, Dataquest/Gartner, etc.; - Interview with Russian offshore programming market experts; - Personal interviews with representatives of companies operating in offshore programming market.

Sampling structure

70 companies were interviewed during the research. These companies develop software for foreign customers and are operating in 5 Russian regions - Central region, Northwest region, Volga region, Urals, and Siberia. Companies from the following 13 RF cities participated in the research: Moscow, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, Ufa, Nizhniy Novgorod, Izhevsk, Samara, Voronezh, Penza, Murmansk, Vologda. Commercial companies operating in the open market and having not less then 15 specialists in software development for foreign customers were included in the sample.

The respondents were offshore companies' executives, heads and deputy heads of specialised units of Russian software companies.
