Sep 16, 2002
SALZBURG, September 16, 2002. /from RIA Novosti Sergei Kudasov, Boris Pechnikov/ - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development /EBRD/ is going to increase investments in the Russian economy in 2003. This was revealed by the EBRD president Jean Lemierre at the Second European Economic Summit.
"I believe that the volume of indicated investments made by the Bank in the Russian economy in 2003 will be expressed by the "1 billion dollars plus" formula," the Bank's President said. In his word, the EBRD is discussing the increase in the investments in Russia at the present moment.
The Bank's president stressed that the investment increase is objectively in line with the economic growth forecast made by the Russian government.
Jean Lemierre said that the EBRD will invest more than 1 billion dollars in the Russian economy this year. "In other words, the investment plan will be overimplemented," Lemierre said.
He told that he was going to visit Moscow in the near future to hold negotiations with the Russian government on the future development of relations between Russia and the EBRD.
