Luxoft Took Part in the OutsourceWorld Exhibition
May 10, 2002
On 23 April in London the international exhibition OutsourceWorld London opened. The exhibition became one of the most prominent events on the European offshore software development market. All in all, representatives of over 20 countries, including India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand and those of Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia exhibited their achievements to the British public. Russian pavilion was represented by 11 Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Minsk software development companies. LUXOFT was one of the largest Russian participants.
Russian exposition was held under the aegis of the RUSSSOFT association of software developers. According to the report of RUSSOFT President Valentin Makarov, during the 2 days of the exhibition over 1500 people visited its pavilions, including representatives of 6 foreign embassies and chief executives of 5 major British IT associations. On the closing day the Russian party was held, which gathered around 100 people.
Having taken part in an international exhibition in the center of European outsourcing (according to the data voiced at the conference accompanying the exhibition in the Great Britain value of software development outsourcing projects in terms of GDP is comparable to that in the U.S) LUXOFT got an opportunity to acquire deeper understanding of the peculiarities of European companies traditionally working mostly with Indian software developers. Meetings with representatives of large British corporations, including British Telecom, HSBC etc, clearly showed that interest to Russian SW developers on their part steadily grows. Still European companies are more conservative, if compared to U.S. ones. And thus it will take some time to persuade them that software produced in Russia is not inferior, and often even superior, to that developed by the Indians. From this point of view, participation in the OutsourceWorld London became the first step on the way of developing Russian niche in the European market of software development outsourcing.
