Intel To Support Russian IT Industry

Participants in the second Intel Developer Forum have made a decision on the construction of an Intel innovation center in the second quarter of 2005.

MOSCOW, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - Novosibirsk hosted the second Intel Developer Forum, where the representatives of the company management announced their plans to bolster Russian information and communication technologies industry (ICT), www.compulenta.ru reports.

According to the source, the participants in the Forum have made a decision on the construction of an Intel innovation center in the second quarter of 2005. The Memorandum of intentions between the government of the Novosibirsk region and the Intel company has been signed during the Forum. Along with it, the Protocol on Cooperation between Intel and the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences has come into force.

At present, there exist a number of Intel innovation centers in USA, Ireland, India, China and Israel. This year the company has taken the decision to set up a similar center in Moscow, and a branch in Nizhny Novgorod.

The activity of the Intel center will mainly focus on the promotion of wireless technologies, particularly WiMAX- broadband wireless access technology. A number of 'Wireless Competence Network' laboratories are planned to be opened in some Russian universities.

Among other activities, the Intel innovation center is also aiming to develop the concepts of 'digital home' and even 'digital city' in Russia.
