Russian IT sector booming
May 22, 2002
The volume of the IT market will grow up to $3bn-3.5bn in Russia in 2001. The advance in 2001 was about 50 percent and amounted to $2.2bn, Communication Minister Leonid Reyman declared at a press conference, which was held within the frame work of the roundtable meeting devoted to the US and Russian cooperation in the IT sector.
According to the minister, this growth is attributed to the low customs taxes on IT equipment imports to Russia and absence of export taxes on IT products created in Russia by foreign companies. Reyman added that the Tax Ministry was ready to support Russian producers of software and to decrease some taxes for them.
