Aeroflot Declares War on Lost Baggage with New Partnership

At Sheremetyevo Airport, there are plans to introduce a system for the improved control of baggage movement

Mar 04, 2015
Russian start-up "Baggage Iz Ruk v Ruki" is set to launch its pilot project alongside Aeroflot in March of this year.

It uses RFID technology, which allows you to track the movement of baggage all the way through the airport. If the luggage deviates from its set route, the system will inform airport staff who can then solve the problem immediately.

Aeroflot flights operating in certain airports will be equipped with a special system to control the movement of their baggage. Commercial use of the technology is set to begin in 2016.

By the end of January, Sergey Tsibuk and Eldar Vagapov, co-founders of the project, had managed to draw in $202,000 worth of investment from 13 private investors, not only locally, but also internationally.

The project team found a very niche idea by using this RFID technology. The aviation industry has long been looking for projects that are aimed at improving the logistics of luggage movement, whilst also offering the possibility to distribute globally.

The money raised from investment will be used to launch the pilot project, purchase equipment and for promotion. After testing the technology, the IATA (International Air Transport Association) will present their calculations for the efficiency of the project and airlines will give their recommendations for the viability of the project.

According to statistics, the annual loss of airlines due to logistical errors is more than $2 billion.
