Vkontakte cofounders building technopark in St. Petersburg

Seleńtel, a data center company owned by Vkontakte cofounders Lev Leviev and Mikhail Mirilashvili, is investing about 1 billion rubles (about $29 million) in the first stage of a technopark in the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg

It will house IT startups that Selectel is involved in.

The technopark will include office space, a warehouse and a data center – all the necessary infrastructure for an IT enterprise, Leviev told the local newspaper Delovoi Peterburg.

The technopark’s data center is designed for 10 MW of power, with the option of expanding to 20 MW at the same site. Its first part is planned for completion later this year, according to Leviev.

Leviev and Mirilashvili, who owned 40% and 8%, respectively, of Russia’s leading social network, sold their stakes last year to the Russian fund UCP in a controversial transaction.
