Committee on Government Reform meets Russian IT-companies in Moscow and in St. Petersburg

On the 16-19th of August 2004 the delegation of the Committee on Government Reform of the U.S. House came to Russia. The main aim of the visit was to investigate the problem of IT-industry state support in the country.
On the 16th of August the delegation visited the office of Consortium of software producers Fort-Ross in St. Petersburg. The guests met with the President of Consortium Valentin Makarov and the President of the company Promt Svetlana Sokolova. Special attention was paid to problems of intellectual property rights protection, possibilities of collaboration for Russian and American companies in the sphere of software development, visa granting, outsourcing and present problems on the way of foreign investors.
Both sides came to conclusion that present problems may be an obstacle to further collaboration of Russian and American companies and stated about mutual willingness to collaborate with a purpose of business atmosphere improvement in both countries.
According to the words of the President of Fort-Ross Valentin Makarov: "...I was gratefully pleased by the fact that the members of the Committee on Government Reform and we look upon the problems of IT-market development from practically the same views. I was impressed by out guests' conviction in necessity of elimination of present bars on the path of collaboration between our countries"
On the 19th of August in the office of American Chamber of Commerce in Moscow the delegation met representatives of Russian and American IT-companies. Among the participants was the management team of Information and Computer Technologies Industry Association and representatives of Russian companies 1C, Elvis+, FORS, Auriga. The focus of interest was the problem of intellectual property copyright protection in Russia and the problem of information protection. Members of the delegations expressed their concern about extent to which using infringing merchandise has spread. Acting Director of APKIT presented to American deligation some projects including legislation improvements, law machinery staff training in the sphere of infringing merchandise control, etc.
Commenting on the results of the meeting, the Acting Director APKIT Nikolai Komlev expressed his hope that in future "our government body will actively help Russian information technology to promote in the foreign market" and would pay such attention to IT-market problems as the USA government body does.
