ST. PETERSBURG, February 22 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ministry of Information and Communications will develop technoparks on four sites in Russia, minister Leonid Reiman said at a Tuesday briefing following the opening of the Novercom exhibition in St. Petersburg.

He said the sites would be chosen through contest. Four sites – Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg – have been suggested, Prime Tass reports.

Information technology technoparks will start working in full in two or three years, President of the Kurchatov Institute nuclear center Academician Yevgeny Velikhov said. "By the year 2007 Russian technoparks will become serious rivals to foreign centers of scientific support to information technology industries," he said.

"The goal of technoparks can be achieved quickly as Russia already has research centers and the government has promised support," he said.

The cost of a technopark is estimated at $100 million.
