Project Title: ICAT 2 - Intra Company Accounting Transfer system
The Boeing Company provides products and services to customers in 145 countries. Boeing has been the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for more than 40 years, and is a global market leader in military aircraft, satellites, missile defense, human space flight, and launch systems and services.
The Challenge
A leading aerospace company required the re-development of its system responsible for keeping track of the internal transactions between its numerous divisions. The Intra Company Accounting Transfer System (ICAT), created in the mid eighties, was not sufficiently automated, inflexible and incapable of being easily enhanced. Additionally, it no longer supported interoperability standards and had a poor interface and online help system. The Solution
LUXOFT developed a reliable and easy to access system with a graphical Web interface and a flexible, expandable architecture. The paper documents used by the old ICAT system are replaced with digital forms and the monthly reports that had previously been recorded on microfiche are now stored safely in Excel format in a single database accessible online. The system is governed by role based security rules that work according to the policies of the client organization.LUXOFT performed the task of analyzing, designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining a solution based on .NET technologies.
The re-developed system, called ICAT2, is based on the following concepts:
- Classical three-tier system architecture with a presentation layer, business layer and data layer
- Microsoft .NET approach to building Web applications
- Microsoft Information Server as both Web Server and Application Server
- Active Server Pages (ASP.NET) Web Forms and Web Controls that utilize COM+ server functionality
- System core built on tested COM+ modules for system flexibility and manageability of ever changing user functionality requirements
- Microsoft SQL Server Database
- Custom solution for generating monthly reports and report access that is flexible, effective and inexpensive. The reporting system is based on the Crystal.NET report engine. The solution stores reports in MS Excel format, taking advantage of the powerful processing and presentation capabilities of the well-known application.
- Integration with external systems accomplished via specially designed export/import interface adaptors. A standard SOAP interface was used to minimize future integration efforts.
Tools and Technologies
- ASP.NET modules based on Web Forms and Web Controls operating on the .NET framework
- ADO.NET for MS SQL Server 2000 connection
- Crystal.NET
- SOAP Web services
