The Challenge

Helios Group was interested in adding more functionality and features to their existing trading platform, as well as expanding its connectivity options. Moreover, Helios needed someone to continuously improve the performance of the system without sacrificing quality or affordability.

The Solution

Jensen Technologies developed several applications for the client's customized futures and options trading platform. This trading system was designed to execute trades across a variety of options and futures exchanges, worldwide, in real time.

Jensen Technologies developed a wide variety of applications including a front-end trader's GUI for the Quote Application that allows a trader to see the list of current quote requests sorted by exchange. It also provides estimated quote values based on theoretical values (supplied by internal servers) and other parameters (such as maximum spread allowed by exchange.)

We also developed exchange-side applications, for dynamic retrieval and publishing of available contracts, snap-shots of market depth, and fundamental data such as interest rates and current dividends for underlying contracts. Several applications, known as "Gateways," were developed to obtain and publish new quotes and contracts to the Exchange server and manage the existing information on the Exchange. Most of our applications were multi-threaded applications that would normally implement TIBCO's features such as application discovery and fault-tolerance.

Having developed various applications for over a year, our team possess hands-on knowledge of several worldwide standard financial API such as Value API and its versions for CBOT, Eurex and Xetra; LIFFE, OM and LT OM, a/c/e, Globex, ATFI. We also have up-to-date experience in FIX protocol and in industry standard TIBCO software, primarily in TIBCO Rendezvous.

Tools and Technologies

Jensen Technologies developed most server-side applications on the client's server in London via a direct SHIVA VPN channel through our 2.3 mb/s Internet connection. We created most of the server-side applications in C++ using Sun Workshop on the Sun Solaris platform. We used C++ with MFC in the MS Visual Studio 6.0 environment on the Windows NT platform for client-side trading applications.
