The Challenge

The main challenge was to combine both hardware and software solutions to create an integrated product for the telecommunication industry with open telephony interface - C54CST chip. 14 modem and voice processing algorithms as well as telephony framework from SPIRIT were placed into internal ROM of newest TI's C54CST chip. The uniqueness of this deal is that a Russian software company won a tender that lasted 6 months in atmosphere of severe competition against 20 US and European DSP software companies. TI selected SPIRIT because of its extensive telephony algorithm knowledge, software excellence, timely support, and quality of user documentation.

The Solution

Client Side Telephony is the best solution for OEMs who plan to develop and manufacture cost effective and fast-to-market devices with data communication and voice capabilities. The key element of this technology is the real time Framework that significantly facilitates the integration of separate software algorithms into a ready-to-use software bundle.

The 14 SPIRIT algorithms in the C54CST DSP comply with TI's DSP algorithm standard and can be used in either fixed function or open programmable mode. Manufacturers can either speed directly to market with a black-box solution or add their own variations. The device can function as a chipset controlled by a host processor through AT-commands sent via the universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) interface, or it can be used in a FLEX mode, programmed to perform customer user functions that take advantage of the optimized ROM contents.

Applications: set-top boxes, ATM terminals, standard or wireless phones combined with: speakerphone mode, answering machines, health control functionality; remote data collection, reliable security & alarm modes, SMS-enabled; point of sale outlets and kiosks,

Telemarketing devices; Fax machines, FoIP-enabled fax relays, voice/fax logging systems.
