The Challenge

One of Artezio core specialties is to help software companies co-develop their new products and solutions. We have helped many successful independent software vendors and solution providers to meet tough deadlines and to get to market faster. This project is an example of cooperation between Artezio and a leading Russian ERP vendor that designs, develops, markets and supports enterprise application software products for large, medium-sized, and small-sized organizations in Russia. Recently they started offering products with analytic and business intelligence (BI) capabilities, including tools for building and using enterprise data warehouses. The customer expected that Artezio’s extensive expertise in developing BI solutions would allow them to reduce time-to-market for their new data warehousing products.
A new suit consisting of two applications was geared for holding companies, nationwide retailers, insurance brokerage networks, locally represented federal government agencies, and other organizations that need to periodically gather and analyze financial, sales and other factual data from their numerous subsidiaries, stores, or local offices.

The Solution

A challenging aspect of the project was that the two applications comprising the suite were developed on different platforms: Data Synchronization System was based on open-source J2EE standards and Data Visualization System was based on Microsoft technologies. Such a requirement demanded advanced cross-platform skills from developers.
From start to finish, this project evolved as a true collaboration between the customer and Artezio, both being software development companies. The customer came in with a set of loosely defined business requirements for the new products and suggested that functional requirements for both applications were written together with Artezio. For this project, Artezio had set aside a project group of four members headed by a lead programmer. Besides, an Artezio consultant worked with the customer on-site. Conceptual software design and architecture documents resulted from close communication with the customer. They were written by Artezio engineers, and reviewed and elaborated by product specialists on the customer side.
Both applications were developed almost simultaneously by two groups of developers with overlapping responsibilities. Specialists well versed in both J2EE and Microsoft .NET Framework platforms were assigned to this project making cross-platform development more effective.
