Project Title: JAVA CHAT for Megafon
The Challenge
The application is intended for a big Russia-based mobile services provider (over 10.000.000 subscribers). The customer makes great effort to keep pace with modern technology and promptly identify the services that may be of interest to its clients. The Solution
Project is dedicated to the development of the chat for mobile users. The main difference between application provided for Megafon by Digital Design and similar products on the market is that this chat uses GPRS instead of SMS for exchange of messages. Being based on the GPRS traffic of the cellular operator, the chat allows to reduce traffic paid by the end-users significantly compared with standard SMS-chat. Another unique of this project for the end-user is support of the user’s authentication by the mobile phone number.
Megafon Chat application allows several users to communicate simultaneously in frames of sessions. At that, all session participants see messages of each other. The system operates in different regimes: as private on-line chat (only specially invited users can take part in) and as the open chat, available for all. The system allows its users to exchange text messages in on-line mode, i.e. to have an on-line chat.
User can take part in several chats simultaneously by switching between them.
For chat connection the subscriber should download Java-application from the operator's wap-site and install the program on his mobile phone. User's telephone number serves as his identifier, thus giving additional advantage the Megafon-chat service in comparison with similar services of the other operators. Megafon chat application also allows to maintain the contacts list, which is being stored on the system server and downloaded by application launch.
Suggested solution allowed to broaden the range of on-line services and to realize GPRS traffic sales. Creating new types of services helps the provider to attract new subscribers and expand its client base, while offering a new GPRS service provides for revenue increase due to payable traffic.
