The Challenge

The University realized they needed to upgrade their existing article search and retrieval application to better meet the needs of a growing worldwide user base of academic scientists and researchers.

The Solution

E-Style rebuilt the existing system into BioMail JE (Java Edition) - a full-featured, high performance Web-based article search and retrieval application. BioMail JE interfaces with PubMedŽ (a major medical research database) allowing users to enter custom search terms once and receive regular email updates with the search results for recently published articles.

The BioMail JE Research Robot takes user search queries, and using E-Style's custom data retrieval algorithms, connects to the PubMedŽ database and returns results parsed in either XML, HTML or Medline formats.

BioMail JE supports over 13,000 users worldwide and performs an average of 3,000 article searches an hour.

Benefits:
  • Automates searches of PubMedŽ database based on user-defined criteria
  • Saves researchers valuable time and improves productivity - eliminates the need to manually search PubMedŽ daily
  • Highly intuitive, easy to use interface - no need to invest time training users
  • Application easily integrates into the look and feel of existing website
  • Support for new scientific databases and features can be added easily through open source developers
  • Service is provided free of charge to researchers

    Features:
    • Cross-platform compatibility with both Windows and Unix/Linux
    • Returns to users a customized digest of articles with accompanying abstracts and web links
    • Reference Treasury for saving and managing articles and abstracts
