Project Title: Productivity solution for a currency exchange brokerage

The Challenge

Confronted with a growing clientele and a rapidly increasing volume of currency buy and sell limit orders, the exchange brokerage felt a pressing need to quickly enhance its existing back office currency trading automated system by including limit order management, originally handled on paper using FAX and telephone calls between a branch and the company’s central clearing house. Although the customer possessed a strong internal software development and maintenance team with a lot of in-house software development experience, they made a strategic decision to try the waters of offshore outsourcing in order to speed up time to market and to stay on a modest budget by leveraging Artezio’s expertise and quality services.

The Solution

This project was split into three phases. The first phase focused on implementing the limit order life cycle. The second phase emphasized clearing house and branch user interfaces, taking user feedback from the first phase and adding more views for managing limit orders. The final phase focused on calculating rates, settlement amounts, etc. and the creation of contracts, eventually moving the module into production.

As a result of deploying the new limit order module, errors associated with manual transmission of limit orders have been eliminated. Labor productivity of traders increased as a result of freeing them up from a significant amount of routine paperwork and improving the average order turnaround time. As a result of faster response to orders placed and modified, system user satisfaction improved. The currency exchange brokerage realized considerable cost savings, materialized new opportunities for data integration, and improved time-to-market.
