Project Title: BroadVision One-To-One Publishing (Currently, BroadVision One-To-One Content)
The Challenge
Having acquired Interleaf in 2000, BroadVision, a global provider of enterprise self-service web applications, faced the need to integrate Interleaf's BladeRunner, a unique enterprise content management solution, into BroadVision's core product offering which later became known as BroadVision One-To-One Publishing. The challenge was to develop a system which would allow to turn static business information into personalized, structured content, to transform a company's ad hoc publishing efforts into a streamlined and comprehensive process, increasing consistency, efficiency, and productivity. The Solution
Looking for a cost-effective and efficient way to integrate Interleaf application into its core product, BroadVision outsourced the work to Auriga. Auriga had been doing product development, migration, enhancement, and support work for Interleaf since 1995 and was the natural choice to take over the integration tasks for BroadVision in 2000.Auriga has been directly involved in the transformation of BladeRunner into BroadVision One-to-One Publishing and its continued development into a leading content management solution.
Auriga's contribution to the project included:
- Development of Workflow Designer. Workflow Designer allows to draw graphical representations of various activities in a workflow referred to as a process definition, to attach roles to tasks, and set typical turn around times for tasks.
- Development of Workflow Manager. Workflow Manager is used to manage workflow users, create aliases, and put a workflow into effect, allowing Information Manager to forward tasks and related information from one user to another. Workflow Manager enables to assign specific staff members to tasks and set specific deadlines for their completion.
- Enhancement of Information Manager Desktop. The Information Manager Desktop provides functions that allow to check out, edit, and check in data to a repository. By installing the Information Manager the client also installs additional GUIs that provide workflow functionality and an XML Compare utility for Information Manager users.
With Auriga's assistance, BroadVision delivered one of the most effective Web content management applications. In 2001, BroadVision One-To-One Publishing was voted Content Management Product of the Year by readers of InfoWorld Magazine. By outsourcing the development and maintenance tasks to Auriga's offshore team, BroadVision cut down its development costs by 40-45% and reduced time to market. Additionally, it allowed BroadVision's in-house staff to focus on new product research and development.
Relationship
In 2002, Aberdeen Group cited BroadVision's relationship with Auriga as an example of best practices in offshore software outsourcing:
- "BroadVision and Auriga have created collaborative processes and a sense of shared responsibility that qualifies their current relationship as an example of best practices."
- "The relationship between the two companies has grown to the point where BroadVision views its Auriga team as a remote extension of its internal development organization."
BroadVision's outsourcing partnership with Auriga evolves and becomes increasingly operational. Auriga's offshore team is currently engaged in development, QA, and maintenance of BroadVision One-To-One Content - an advanced, feature-rich evolution of BroadVision One-To-One Publishing.
