The Challenge

The client was developing a large-scale medical simulation product and needed to create a centralized repository to collect and process information from several local installations. This included the development of a web-based competence management system, as well as a set of utilities. Another requirement was to adopt the agile development model used by the client and to build a team capable of intensive and efficient communication with the client’s development team.

The Solution

This Competence Management System (CMS) represents an integrated approach to knowledge and progress management. It is a centralized repository, easy to use and configure for all users of the Laerdal Sophus flagship product – MicroSim. The CMS can be set up on a range of platforms including Windows and Linux. The system helps the customer keep track of their learners/students and their learning progress and acquisition of competencies.
"A key requirement for working with Laerdal Sophus is to work using our agile development model. This model (see www.agilemanifesto.org) is crucial to Laerdal Sophus’s efficiency and ability to deliver quality software. Agile development is a challenge in any company, but especially so when development is spread across several physical locations: Denmark, St. Petersburg and Bangalore, India. Together LANIT-TERCOM and Laerdal have succeeded in finding and growing the right agile people to manage the ODC. Another achievement of the Russian ODC has been the ability to work very well together with Laerdal’s other ODC in Bangalore. The recent successful installation of the Competence Management System in Australia is only the last in a series of successful deliveries by our ODC in Russia. The Australian project demonstrated that the ODC can even be relied on to interact directly with customers on our behalf. Currently development is going on in Russia in co-operation with programmers in the Washington D. C. branch of Laerdal - again with Russian project management. In summary, LANIT-TERCOM has succeeded in building a very responsible, agile, productive and dedicated team in St. Petersburg. "In summary, LANIT-TERCOM has succeeded in building a very responsible, agile, productive and dedicated team in St. Petersburg." (Tommy H. Olesen, Outsourcing Manager, Laerdal Sophus)
