Project Title: Switch Development for FDDI/Ethernet Local Mixed Networks
The Challenge
The client ordered an FDDI/Ethernet switch for local mixed networks, which had to meet such requirements - a high degree of reliability and survivability, fast and automatic detection, localization and elimination of faults; easily modified system configuration, if changes in mission requirements or subsystem faults arise. The Solution
The new switch has 28 standard Ethernet/Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) ports, and 2 FDDI (100 Mbps) ports. The crosspoint array developed by LANIT-TERCOM is used as a switching unit, ensuring a switchboard carrying capacity of up to 1.5 Gbps operating in full duplex mode. The switch has an RS232 control port and supports the SNMP control protocol. The control module of the switch was developed on the basis of the RISC processor (MIPS architecture) and works under the control of real-time OS. During the project the configuration, routing, self-testing and support of STP and SNMP protocols for real-time OS were developed. The switch has a modular structure, which permits the necessary network configuration to be efficiently assembled. This allows different types of cable systems to be combined and the number or module sets in the switch to be changed. Furthermore, the module system permits effective control, allowing modules to be quickly changed if necessaryTools and Technologies
