High quality and low cost is the answer.

And despite an economic downturn and political unrest, the expectations remain high for this industry. Last year alone, the market witnessed a 50% increase as it approached $7 billion. And according to recent statistics, it is projected to reach $17.5 billion in 2005.

So, really, what is all the attraction? More than half of the Fortune 500 Companies are now outsourcing offshore in an effort to sharpen their competitive edge. As companies face new economic conditions which have resulted in a reduction of their IT and operating budgets, a decrease in software spending and an inability to staff qualified IT professionals, there seems to be no other alternative than offshore outsourcing.

While the industry is continuing to witness an influx of mainstream and mid-tier corporations seeking to achieve the estimated costs savings of 25-35%, they shall move slowly, as the complexities of doing so are great. Who to outsource too, where to outsource, what to outsource, how to manage offshore, how to effectively communicate change, how to overcome cross-cultural issues- shall I continue? Interestingly, these complexities have not changed as a result of 9.11, yet reluctance has. What appears to be the greatest effect is the reluctance to travel to certain offshore countries. And although India remains the No. 1 offshore development country, corporations are now looking to such countries as the Philippines, New Zealand, Ireland, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Russia and China as viable alternatives to overcoming such perceived security risks.

On September 18-20 in Chicago, IL, top IT executives from the Fortune 1000 will meet in an exclusive opportunity to evaluate the complexities and mitigate the risks involved in offshore outsourcing. Leading analysts from Giga, along with senior executives from Motorola, Hewitt Associates, Xerox, CCC Information Services, Outsourcing Associates International and Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc will provide valuable insight into the critical strategies needed to ensure a successful offshore initiative. If not understood, offshore outsourcing presents formidable risks. If understood, the rewards are exponential.

High quality and low cost are the name of the game.
