SPIRIT successful story
SPIRIT signed with Texas Instruments the biggest software product licensing deal a Russian software company ever made.
Jun 24, 2002
SPIRIT signed with Texas Instruments the biggest software product licensing deal a Russian software company ever made. Partnership between these two companies brought integrated (software+hardware) Client Side Telephony solution, C54CST, to the telecommunication market.
SPIRIT provided complete software for CST while TI was a hardware partner. 14 data and telephony algorithms as well as real time framework from SPIRIT were placed into ROM of newest TI's C54CST chip, a member of the famous TMS320C5000 DSP family. TI put SPIRIT's name on C54CST chip and will pay SPIRIT a healthy royalty for each chip sold.
The uniqueness of this deal is that a Russian software company won a tender that lasted 6 months in atmosphere of severe competition against 20 US and European DSP software companies. TI selected SPIRIT because of its extensive telephony algorithm knowledge, software excellence, timely support, and quality of user documentation.
"Client Side Telephony is the best solution for OEMs who plan to develop and manufacture cost effective and fast-to-market devices with data communication and voice capabilities," said SPIRIT founding chief executive officer Andrew Sviridenko. "TI's C54CST chip is running Client Side Telephony software technology developed by SPIRIT. The key element of this technology is the real time Framework that significantly facilitates the integration of separate software algorithms into a ready-to-use software bundle."
"C54CST is the first to offer all these telephony algorithms on a single DSP," said Mark Mattson, TI's C5000 business development manager. "Because the framework is open and flexible, customers can extend this solution by selecting other eXpressDSP-compliant algorithms from SPIRIT and other members of TI's extensive third party network."
Target Applications for C54CST are:
By employing the best engineers and developing business relationships SPIRIT succeeded in getting excellent reputation and attracted such clients as Atmel, Furuno, JRC, NEC, Nortel Networks, Panasonic, Samsung, Tadiran, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba among others. SPIRIT software is used in over 50 countries worldwide.
Founded by Moscow State University graduates in 1992, SPIRIT has grown into an international provider of high-quality DSP (Digital Signal Processing) software products, including VoIP, FoIP, sophisticated speech processing, speaker ID, telephony, GPS, Audio and Video compression, face ID, and more. With major R&D offices located in Russia, SPIRIT also provides professional services in custom DSP software development and related areas.
About TI
TI is the biggest semiconductor company in DSP and analog that holds 45% of worldwide DSP (embedded) chip market. TI and SPIRIT's CST solution is based on the C54 chip which is the mainstream chip for worldwide DSP industry, not unlike Pentium processor for PC industry. 400 million C5x chips have been shipped by TI to date.
