Nov 13, 2002
On November 7-8, 2002 the Asian ICT Organization (AICTO) held its General Assembly in Seoul. AICTO is a non-profit, non-political organization which aims at the enhancement and development of the ICT industry in Asia. The organization was originally founded as the SITO (Southeast Asia Information Technology Organization) in 1988 in Taipei. AICTO took its present name at the General Assembly in Hanoi, Vietnam in December 2001.
By now AICTO consists of ICT Associations from 12 countries (regions) of Asia and other parts of the World. The affiliate members include Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Macao, China, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The Seoul General Assembly has admitted RUSSOFT (National Software Development Association of Russia) as official member of the Organization. Mr.Valentin Makarov - president of RUSSOFT was elected a vice-chairman of AICTO alongside with presidents of IT Associations from South Korea and Taiwan.
Mr.Kazuhiko Adachi from Japan Personal Computer Association (JPSA) was reelected the Chairman of AICTO for the next two years.
The General Assembly has approved the amendments to the Charter of the Organization and discussed different joint activities. Among them - participation of AICTO members in the Third St Petersburg Software Outsourcing Summit in June 2003.
Bilateral relations were also discussed during the Assembly. A visit of Mr.Kazuhiko Adachi to St Petersburg and Moscow in December 2002 has been approved.
The inclusion of RUSSOFT into AICTO is a logic development of the Russian software industry penetration into Asian ICT market. For already 10 years Russian software development companies are successfully getting contracts in the Southeastern Asia. SPIRIT has executed a number of important projects in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for the most reputed Asian corporations such as Samsung, Furuno, Huyndai, Panasonic, Toshiba, NEC. Kaspersky Lab. has successfully led its way to the Chinese market. Very recently Nauka-Dialogue has won the tender for supply of thousands of copies of its famous antivirus program Dr.Web for Huyndai. Inforus Consortium has recently established together with NEC a business office in Japan for promoting there Russian high technologies.
The very first organizational step aimed at the inclusion of Russian IT Associations in SITO was done in December 2001 when Fort Ross Consortium from St Petersburg was admitted to the SITO as a guest-member at the General Assembly held in Hong Kong. Now the Russian positions in Asia are enhanced by RUSSOFT acquiring the status of official member and by president of RUSSOFT being elected to the position of the vice-chairman of AICTO.
The Asian IT market is the second biggest IT market in the World. Even in a time of the general recession of the Global market, the Southeast Asia keeps high profile, particularly Japan and Taiwan. The report on the situation and on trends in the Russian IT market which is growing with annual double figure growth rates for the consecutive 4 years - was very positively received by the members of the AICTO. The advantages of Russian software development such as high scientific background and creativity of Russian engineers, as well as team spirit and focus on finding solutions - are of particular interest to businesses striving for survival within the recession.
