Digital Design wins the National Quality Award

Digital Design is the only company from St-Petersburg and Moscow to win a National Quality Award this year. National Quality Award of Russian Federation is given to the companies that "have made outstanding achievements in high quality goods and services production and have adopted effective methods of quality management". Digital Design is also the first winner from IT sector in the 7-year history of the Award.

The diploma and the stele was handed by the vice minister Boris Aleshin in the Award Hall of the White House on the 11th of June to Andrew Fedorov, Digital Design's CEO, and Boris Beljaev, quality assurance director. Every year hundreds of candidates compete for one out of 12 awards to be taken - 9 for large enterprises and 3 for SME.

The criteria of the Award are harmonized with the ones of the European Quality Award, which has had its twelfth running this year. Similar mission shares the Baldrige Award, which was established by the U.S. Congress in 1987 to recognize U.S. organizations for their achievements in quality and performance and to raise awareness about the importance of quality and performance excellence as a competitive edge. The award is given by the President of the United States to businesses manufacturing and service, small and large and to education and health care organizations that apply and are judged to be outstanding in seven areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management, and business results.

These national awards are open to every high performing organization and focuses on recognizing excellence and providing detailed, independent feedback to all applicants to help them on their continuing journey to excellence. Their vision is to help organizations in becoming strong by practicing the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the way they do business and in their relationships with their employees, shareholders, customers and communities in which they operate.

McKinsey's recent report shows that software development in the most productive sector of the Russian economy. In accordance with the Federal Target Program "E-Russia" the volume of software export is expected to increase from 350 million to 2 billion USD during the next 5 to 7 years. It is important for Russian IT companies to comply with the world's quality standards in order to successfully internationalize.

Digital Design Quality Management Milestones

1999 Digital Design became the first Russian software company to achieve ISO 9001 certification processes (McKinsey report "Unlocking Economic Growth in Russia").

2002 Digital Design successfully passed certification according to the new version of the standard ISO 9001:2000. The whole range of services the company provides is certified.

2002 Digital Design became the first company in Russia to be assessed for SEI CMMI Level 3 (Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model - Integrated.
