Services that enable firms to improve efficiency, such as business process automation and managed IT outsourcing, are likely to grow during 2009, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by IT industry analyst IDC indicates a significant drop in the share of companies expanding their IT services budgets this year, although news in the sector is not entirely negative.
Peter Vermeulen, consulting director for IDC's operations in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg, commented that there are likely to be pockets of good growth, particularly in areas that help companies reduce cost and improve work-process efficiency.
"Offshoring and automation are likely to grow significantly in 2009, but use of contractors, or bodyshopping, will be substantially reduced," he added.
Last week, IT support services provider the AdTrack Corporation claimed it is important for companies to make use of sales force automation technology in the current economic climate.
The group added that the technology can be integrated with lead management systems at less cost than purchasing two separate solutions.
