Skolkovo team pushes advanced computer networking

The Skolkovo Foundation’s IT cluster is home to a range of next gen computer technologies being developed at the local Applied Research Center for Computer Networks, the Foundation website announced

Mar 18, 2014
The Center leads the cluster’s effort in developing a new generation of networks based on state-of-the-art technologies, including software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV).

The Center team is also developing a line of hardware products to complement its software, Skolkovo underscored.

The technologies that th Center is developing are on a list of what the Foundation described as "most advanced and promising IT approaches" of the past decade alongside cutting-edge cloud solutions and big data. The Russian Government has also defined SDN and NFV technologies as national priorities in IT-related R&D.

"The Center has been set up to bring together intellectual potential in software-defined networking and support the development of world-class high-tech products. The global market for network data transfer technologies is estimated to be worth as much as $25bn a year," said Igor Bogachev, the executive director of the IT cluster.

Between March 3 and March 5, Center projects were showcased at Open Networking Summit 2014 in California, one of the world’s largest events in the field of modern computer networks.
