MOSCOW, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - Incredible discoveries can be made at the intersection of nano-, bio- and information technologies in the next 30-40 years. Russia will become a proving ground for different technologies, Ian Pearson, a resident futurologist at British Telecom's research laboratories, said in an interview with the Russian Itogi weekly.
According to the expert, Russia has preserved a strong scientific base and innovation discoveries will surely be made in Russia. Russian scientists will learn to fight cancer and AIDS in two or three decades.
Pearson presumes that in several decades robots will increasingly look like people and people will look more like robots, because chips will be implanted under human skin. Living organisms will be assembled like Mecchano, just as today we assemble different instruments out of chips. Besides, people will get an opportunity to implant artificial elements into living cells.
By 2020, world science will invent an incredible product - synthetic skin of various types with a wide range of possibilities. Half biological, half synthetic, skin will breathe and have metabolism and heat exchange, the publication said.
Digital flora and fauna may be added to the planet's wildlife. Artificial intelligence will operate man-created animals. An artificial biosphere will replace the dying forests, lakes and rivers.
