Construction of industrial park in Monchegorsk to start in 2012
Working group of municipal and regional officials gathered up last week to think of the future of the industrial park in the Murmansk region
Feb 16, 2012
According to the approved plan of activities, construction works will be launched in 2012.
Also known as ‘Technopark’, the new industrial facilities will be deployed on the basis of the existing technological assets of Kolskaya mining company (KGMK). The project is seen a diversifier of local economy and one of ‘driving forces for Monchegrosk investment plan development’.
The project of the industrial park was approved by Russian Economic Ministry in Moscow. This fact secures a bigger funding share allocated from federal budgetary sources. According to some estimates, total investment plan reaches out for 1.3 billion RUB, while the regional financial backup will presumably make up only 30% of the costs.
New production facilities will eventually need new infrastructure to be raised. Thus in particular, the park will build up a water supply and heating network, transforming power substations, and means for internal communication. A new metallurgy mini-plant is to be constructed as well backed up by the federal budget with 720 million RUB.
If the project gets a final approval stamp in February this year, then funding will be allocated in autumn.
Another far-reaching investment project in Monchegrosk – a plant-to-be for grinding balls production – is yet to be developed in terms of technical documentation. This project will hardly be included into federal funding support programme 2012 and is likely to be postponed.
