Managed IT outsourcing 'increasingly popular for data storage'

Managed IT outsourcing is likely to increase in popularity at the expense of enterprises undertaking managed storage themselves.

Managed IT outsourcing is likely to increase in popularity at the expense of enterprises undertaking managed storage themselves, it has been claimed.

Senior security policy professionals participating in the London meeting of the Chief Security Officer Interchange debated changing dynamics of risk management, outsourcing and the opportunity for cloud computing.

In a survey conducted at the event, 87 per cent of security professionals claimed that Software-as-a-service (SaaS) services will replace enterprise software for mission critical applications within the next five years.

Philippe Courtot, chief executive of management solutions provider Qualys, told the seminar he anticipates security professionals will come to realise the SaaS model is a more effective alternative for data storage than having companies take on the responsibility themselves.

Earlier this week, the second international Finance and Investment Forum for Data Centres concluded the outlook for the managed data centre sector looks bright despite the current uncertain economic climate.

According to the meeting's findings, operating fundamentals of managed storage remain sound, while investors appreciate the return on investment provided by collocation hosting.
