Borlas Opens R&D Unit at Skolkovo

The Borlas Consulting Group and the Skolkovo Foundation have signed a cooperation agreement for the establishment of a research and development unit at Skolkovo

Jul 14, 2014
The company believes that the creation of their own R&D center at Skolkovo will allow Borlas to create IT products and services using the experience and knowledge of the Skolkovo community.

"We have no doubt about the potential for the directions we have chosen," said Borlas President Alexey Ananin. "Borlas will receive investments in research and development but we also expect that the results of our work will result in the creation of specific products and services. Cooperation with the Skolkovo Foundation, which has extensive experience in innovation, will create an environment conducive to development and we will be able to gather support in promotion and commercialization, which is especially important in such projects."

Borlas has said that it will initially focus on developing an SaaS platform for small- and medium-sized businesses. The unit will create solutions for the full range of enterprise operations — from receiving and processing orders through all available channels (retail, e-commerce) to accounts storage and management, analytic and marketing tools, and financial analysis. The unit at Skolkovo will concentrate on cloud and mobile technologies using tablet PCs as access terminals.

The R&D unit is also expected to develop virtual prototypes. In particular, the company plans to create a virtual prototype template that will reflect the performance of the product under actual operating conditions. The first prototype will be created for unmanned aircraft and then developed so that the methodology and IT solutions can be used in aerospace engineering, the automotive and defense industries, and shipbuilding.

Application of these prototypes is expected to reduce product life-cycle costs and improve the competitiveness of domestic enterprises, the company believes.

"We welcome Borlas as a partner," said Igor Bogachev, Executive Director of the IT Cluster at the Skolkovo Foundation. "Residents of the cluster will be able to develop technology and business competence alongside experts from Borlas and create projects that will be competitive on the market."

The signing of the current agreement extends previous joint initiatives between Borlas and the Skolkovo IT Cluster, such as the iSecurity information security design competition. Representatives of Borlas sat on the jury and provided mentoring and consultancy support for the winners.
