The all-Russian program for the development and support of technology entrepreneurship will visit 27 cities and involve over 8,000 people across Russia and is now in its second of six stages, Digit.ru reports.

The Russian StartUp Tour is the largest project in Russia to find promising innovative projects and develop the competencies of beginner start-up teams implementing projects in the field of high technologies. The event is supported by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communications.

"Today innovators from Chuvashia presented about 40 projects from such areas as biotechnology, composite materials, alternative energy, engineering, medicine, chemistry and new materials," read a statement released by the organizers. The event was attended by young innovators, software developers, start-up teams, technology entrepreneurs, undergraduates and postgraduates, and the residents of business incubators and technology parks. More than 150 people participated.

Those teams found to have developed the most promising projects will be invited to Russia’s largest startup conference – the Skolkovo Foundation’s Startup Village – where they will compete for the Zworykin Award. Projects that pass the qualifying stage will be awarded a certificate for participation in the 100 Innovators project of the Open Innovation Fund.

The Russian Startup Tour 2014 kicked off in the city of Togliatti on Jan. 20. During the following three months it will cover 27 cities from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok, divided into six stages. It is expected that over 200 projects will be presented as part of the roadshow. In 2013, the Russian StartUp Tour stopped in 17 cities and attracted more than 3,500 participants.
