Star Software - a Spirited Promoter of the Russian IT industry at the Software Outsourcing Summit 2003
Jul 03, 2003
Star Software once again took part in the Software Outsourcing Summit held in Zelenogorsk. This year's event was characterized by a more optimistic outlook on the future of the Russian IT industry. Russia was identified as having tremendous IT potential that can turn the country into an immense IT power in a short period of time. However, while the potential is very real, a number of barriers to IT growth are also present. One is insufficient promotion of the Russian IT industry to highlight its capabilities and success stories.
Understanding the importance of such problem, Star Software is taking concrete steps to raise awareness of Russia's advantages and challenges in the area of software outsourcing. Star used its participation in the Software Outsourcing Summit 2003 to place the industry's critical issues before major Russian and Western IT companies plus leading groups of analysts.
Nick Puntikov CEO of Star Software was a principal speaker in the Summit panel entitled "Legal aspects of doing business in the booming Russian IT market and of exporting product and services from Russia". He was the only industry representative to comment on speeches made by legal advisors. At another panel discussion, Puntikov delivered a presentation on extreme programming, the latest trend in software development. The presentation caused a lively discussion among the audience and panel participants. www.moscowtimes.ru/stories/2003/07/08/049.html
Star sponsored and participated in a press conference announcing the Aberdeen Group report, "Software Development in Russia: A Buyer's Guide to the Russian Software Development and Services Export Industry." The report featured Star Software among industry leaders.
Michael Tsygankov, Business Development Director of Star Software, moderated the panel "Sales and Marketing in Software Development," which put forward marketing and sales techniques that Russian IT companies should adopt in order to strengthen their appeal on Western markets.
"In order to be successful, we need to re-brand the Russian IT industry. We need to shed the old image that most Western countries have of Russia. Being competent is not good enough. We need to make others believe in our competence," said Puntikov.
