Digital Design will present its approach to decreasing the risks of IT projects at the International Symposium on Project Management
May 27, 2005
On May 17-18, 2005 Digital Design will participate in the International symposium on Project Management 'PROJECT MANAGENT: BUSINESS, IDEAS, PRACTICE', which is to be held in St.– Petersburg, Russia.
Symposium is the first united (IPMA, PMI, GBPS WG, SOVNET) International Symposium on Project Management in Russia. This proves high current importance of the Project Management approach, which became the main premise for successful business development. The event is aimed to contribute to the development of professional project management; to promote global co-operation between companies seeking to ensure progress in business; to work out new concepts and methodologies; thus contributing to the intensive world economic integration.
Digital Design speakers will highlight such important topics as 'Risk management in corporate IT system projects' and 'Cost of IT projects: balance between accurate calculation and intuitive forecast'.
The first report covers all main types of risks, which occur in large-scale development projects. Analysis of risks will be conducted, split by different stages of project life circle. Special attention will be paid to the risks concerned with tracking the conformity of the information system. Different software development models will be compared, including Rational Unified Process and Microsoft Solution Framework.
Risks concerned and resulted from a chosen organizational project structure will be given a thorough review; as well as risks of interaction with the end-user, caused by complicated by-contract structure. Risks of interaction between contractor and soft and-hardware developer will be examined as a separate group of risks. Practical recommendations and solutions will be suggested. In conclusion, the problem will be considered from the customer’s point of view; and the risks concerned with the selection of solution provider will be studied. Live examples will demonstrate specificity of risks management by project implementation for different types of organizations, including large corporate customers and governmental institutions.
The second report will be dedicated to the problem of calculating the cost of IT projects, which has been so far not adequately and insufficient explored. The scope of projects to be considered is outlined by the following: software development projects, solution deployment projects, IT consulting projects and system integration projects; in all of these cases additional cost is result of conducted work, not buying / selling price difference. For these projects, the task of cost calculation will be viewed in several aspects: classical problem: determination and separation of fixed and variable prices; calculation of the whole project cost as sum of costs at its different stages; risks calculation in the project total cost.
Digital Design speakers will be pleased to share their experience and knowledge in Project Management field, reinforced by more then 200 successfully implemented software development projects for the end-user customers and another IT companies worldwide.
