Two Skolkovo residents get together to identify people
The Face-Intellect system is designed to help automatically identify a person by analyzing its video images

ITV|AxxonSoft, a Russian developer of open video surveillance platforms and integrated security systems, has begun collaboration with another Russian company, VisionLabs, which is creating special software for image recognition. Both firms are residents of the Skolkovo innovation hub just outside Moscow, and that’s where their partnership got started, the Skolkovo Foundation website announced.
VisionLabs is developing "unique image recognition technology" which is said to rank high among global face recognition systems for commercial application (according to the University of Massachusetts’ Labeled Faces in the Wild random face database). Now the VisionLabs technology will be used in ITV|AxxonSoft’s Face-Intellect person identification and verification system.
The Face-Intellect system is designed to help automatically identify a person by analyzing its video images. It is reported to be able to pinpoint faces that come into camera view and then match them against a reference image database available. Such systems are helpful to address security issues at schools, shopping malls, banks, on public transportation, and in other places where many people get together.
"The VisionLabs technology is not second to foreign analogs, and in some aspects it is superior. Using a technology that is 100% Russian-made enables us to plan with confidence long-term projects, as these are not dependent on dollar- or euro-denominated price swings," explained Andrei Khristoforov, ITV|AxxonSoft’s director for corporate sales.
VisionLabs sees new opportunities opening up in security, retail, finance-related and other projects as the firm is pooling efforts with ITV|AxxonSoft, VisionLabs CEO Alexander Khanin said.
At the end of last month VisionLabs showcased its computer vision solutions to potential partners and customers at innovation-focused events in Singapore.
