The main task of the committee will be to provide strategic advice on the further development and the promotion of IT security. Seven experts with experience in the IT industry, the public sector and science will share practical advice, and monitor and evaluate strategic plans and business development priorities, the report says. The first meeting of the committee is due to be held on Feb. 11.
Schmidt will be joined on the committee by Bruce Schneier, Jay-Woo Lee, Vijay Latha Reddy, Pauline Neville-Jones, Norbert Pohlmann and Whitfield Diffie.
It is assumed that the Committee will help further strengthen Kaspersky Lab’s study of information security threats, which in turn will contribute to the development of new technologies and services, states the company.
Three members of the committee have held posts in their respective national security services. Lee was the first president of the Information Security Agency of the Republic of Korea. Latha Reddy is a former deputy adviser on India’s national security and Pauline Neville-Jones is the former chairman of the U.K.’s Joint Intelligence Committee.
