Yandex Opens Development Unit in Berlin
Russian Internet giant Yandex opened its first development unit in Berlin on Feb. 7, according to the company’s blog.

The first project for Berlin involves the development of new features and technologies for the Yandex Maps. The company is currently seeking C++ developers. Yandex plans to create development teams for other Yandex products in Berlin.
According to the company, Berlin was chosen because it is considered one of the world’s top locations for design and is gradually becoming one of Europe’s center for the start-up movement. The city boasts an active IT community and excellent living conditions and business development opportunities. In addition, graduates from respected universities such as the Technical University, Free University and Humboldt University have expressed interest in the company, says a Yandex press release.
The Berlin location is the 16th development unit of the company has launched and the third in Western Europe – the first two are located in Zurich and Lucerne. Historically, Yandex development services and technologies have been distributed among regional offices. The Yandex Taxi product was developed in Yekaterinburg, Yandex Real Estate in St. Petersburg, and speech recognition technology in Moscow and Zurich.
