The Russian government has approved a provision on licensing the activities of developers and/or producers of information security technology.

Licenses will be handed out by the presidential technical commission and the Federal Agency for Government Communications and Information (FAPSI), the government information department said. These agencies will monitor compliance with license conditions, particularly through inspections, including unannounced ones.

The provision sets out the conditions for granting licenses. Applicants must submit a written request and founding documents, as well as information on the qualifications of the company's employees. Licenses will be granted for a term of five years.
